Conversion Rate 1.1% → 3.4%: Shopify Redesign & CRO
The Challenge
The client's Shopify store was generating good traffic from paid ads but converting at just 1.1% — half the industry average for their category. Revenue per visitor was severely underperforming despite a strong product.
A heuristic audit identified the core issues: no trust signals above the fold, product pages buried key information behind tabs, checkout had unnecessary friction (3-page checkout with forced account creation), and the mobile experience was broken on several devices.
What We Did
- Heuristic audit of all core pages. Heat maps and session recording analysis.
- Identified top 12 friction points. Prioritised by effort vs expected conversion impact.
- Designed new product page layout: trust signals above fold, key info visible without tabs.
- Built new product page template in Shopify. Implemented sticky ATC button on mobile.
- Added social proof: review count visible above fold, "X people viewing now" urgency signal.
- Simplified checkout: enabled Shop Pay, removed forced account creation, one-page checkout.
- A/B tested new vs old product page. New page won at 97% statistical significance.
- Rolled out new template across all product pages.
- Implemented cart abandonment email sequence (3-email, 48h recovery window).
- CVR hit 3.4%. Revenue per visitor tripled.
- Cart abandonment recovery generating additional 8% of revenue.
- Full documentation delivered. Client team trained on Shopify theme editor.
